Share with us your experience with the activities from this week, human camera and mine field. How was it being blind folded, did you trust yourself, your partner, what was good about the activity what could be changed?
I think trusting your partner was very important. It was much easier to keep your eyes closed rather than be blind folded. Being blind folded was much scarier than I thought it would be especially when your partner can not be next to you and has to shout to while others are shouting at the same time. - Pooja shah
I LOVED these activities. I thought it not only was a great trust learning activity, but it also was great bonding. I know that trust was a really big thing for everyone, but I really have no problem trusting new people, the biggest thing for me was bonding with Cathy by laughing at our code word bologna during the blind folded exercise, that shows true comradery and growing. Silly things build friendships in my opinion, not only trust.
It was really cool to do both of these activities. They both had us trust someone that we usually wouldn't have trusted. And it was cool to do. I usually don't trust people easily but we had to in the mine field and it was fun to lead someone through it. What I really liked was seeing some of the people walking through when we had to stay outside of the area when people couldn't hear their partner so they would just stop and stand perfectly still. It was funny. But overall I really liked it. -Allison Tomal
These activities were so much fun! They taught trust which wasn't an easy thing to do especially considering I didn't talk to my partner very much before. Ashley wilson
i think i may be to trusting because i trusted my partner completely even though i really hadn't spoken with her before. good in class but in the real world credit company's may have a field day. -kyle dunnington
Closing your eyes during activities is always scary because you always feel like you're are going to run into something or someone. Having someone physically lead me during the camera activity was nice because I knew my partner wouldn't lead me into danger. Also the land mine activity was really fun! The second time we went through was difficult because it was difficult to hear my partner over everyone else sometimes. Overall I think these activities helped us trust each other as a class more. -Michelle Baum
i really liked this activity. it was definitely ewarding when you played by the rules; i have to say that it was great having Tom as a partner: he was able to pick out the path where i wouldn't have to crawl, thereby ensuring that one or more of my limbs wouldn't be blown off by a land mine. Though the stakes were high and the potential injuries grave, it was fun. And besides, even if we were to be injured by a land mine and i jured for life, in the words of Nietzsche and Carrie Underwood: "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger"
I really enjoyed the mine field activity! It really took a lot of trust, and I'm glad I didn't have any problem with that. I'd say that the camera activity wasn't as difficult in terms of trust, but it was hard finding things to photograph. Being blindfolded was kind of scary, but I knew that my partner wouldn't let me get into any trouble, so I felt safe. We might want to split into two waves or something, though, because there was a lot of waiting for people to fit through tight spaces. -Soumik Biswas
I really liked these activities. Kosta and I were partners for both of the trust activities so it was cool to be able to go through both levels of trust together and kind of build on what we did the first time. Being blindfolded was really fun but also really scary at first. I had to be able to trust myself and Kosta. But as the activites went on we both started to trust each other more and more. My favorite activity was the last one we did. It was interesting to not be able to guide your partner around but to use your voice instead. I don't think this activity should be changed. Its a good activity and teaches a good lesson on trust.
I really liked both of those activities. I thought it was a great way to bond with someone that we haven't talked to before. Having our eyes closed and being blindfolded forced us to trust the other person. It was nice having someone depend on you and trust you the same way you depend and trust them. Klaudia Zahuta
I think the blind folding was a good way to force us to trust each other, even though there wasn't too much danger involved. Getting through the mind field took a lot of patience when directing the blind folded person though, and also for the person directing them. I don't really have anything to change aboutit really. Maybe to make it more challenging we would have to step up over the mats. christine ross cano
A recent scientific discovery done by graduates in Yale University about bacteria enlightened me of its complexity in socializing. I was able to relate our activity about communication without the ability to sight to the ordinary communication of bacteria. Of course, bacteria can't communicate by words, but it can alternate communication by using chemical communication, aka quorum sensing. The molecule these bacteria use is vibrio fischeri molecule. The molecule made by and received by bacteria only works within bacterial community. This arcane communication allows themselves to count these little molecules. By calculating these number of molecules, bacteria recognize when they have the right cell number that if all of the bacteria launch their virulence attack together, they are going to be successful at overcoming an enormous host. This rather simple-looking communication to human-beings is crucial to most bacteria's lives. I found this bacterial communication germane to our communication particularly to this activity because without sight, the person on blind-fold had to identify his/her partner's voice and follow directions. Experiencing bacterial way of communication is definitely difficult, so I was awed by the bacterial communication. I don't think this activity should be devalued as just fun, but instead it should be appreciated as a lesson to understand the importance of arcane communication perception. At that moment, I felt like we've done some learning for the first time in class (not sarcastic). =Chris Park=
I enjoyed it, but I think that group things would work better if people focused on the activity at hand. I know that it helped to calm me down if I knew who I was holding on to, but at the same time, listening is a crucial thing. Nora Bosslet
The blind fold activities where really hilarious since you had people yelling random things at each other and almost running into people and it was just fun to watch and do.
I like the blind fold activities were really fun. I wasn't trusting my partner at first, but after few minutes later, i really do start trusting them. For the mine field activity, i think the partner should say the name of who he is giving instruction to. By that others won't get confuse by different people. Anne Hou
This activity was really fun. It helped build trust in a fun and creative way. You ha to trust your partner to lead you in a direction which only allowed you to open your eyes for at most 10 seconds. I really enjoyed this activity and opening to trusting new people. Hanna brooks
